Long Island Man Drove Drunk With 1-Year-Old Daughter In Car, Police Say

A 25-year-old man has been charged with driving drunk under Leandra's Law after his infant daughter was found in the car when he was stopped on Long Island.

The stop happened on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2:10 a.m. in Freeport.

Freeport Police officers say they observed a 2007 Honda Civic operating westbound on Washburn Avenue, make a right on red onto North Main Street. 

The officers then conducted a vehicle and traffic law investigation. 

During the investigation, Henry Alexander Martinez Urbina, of Roosevelt, emanated a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and officers observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle, police said. 

Urbina's 1-year old daughter was in the car at the time. Urbina was taken into custody. The child was released to her mother, who was also in the vehicle.

Urbina has been charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and traffic infractions. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday, Sept. 29 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
